about

she made a stitched map about surveillance

Burum is a tiny village in Friesland, NL. It has 615 inhabitants and the biggest satellite station in Europe. Although the inhabitants seem to ignore the station, through this Burum connects to the global network of communication, surveillance and power structures. For instance, there was a case when data was intercepted in Burum, and leaked to Fort Meade. Based on this a drone attack was decided on in Ramstein. The drone driven from Creech, taken off from Djibouti, killed two innocent children in Somalia. Our round table with the tablecloth provides an opportunity to discuss questions raised, based on the map visualizing these connections.
